Watch out for Sugar!!!!
So how is that shimmy going?How is your energy today?No cases of sniffles I hope.If you answered fine, good, and no then good for you!!If you think back over the past few years and ask yourself these same questions and answer the same answer - even better.If not, and you would like to increase your energy and lower your chances of catching a cold or flu or worse, then read on!
As we strive for fitness and fun, it is good to take a pulse check and informal audit of what you are eating.As the old expression goes "you are what you eat".Have a few stubborn pounds still holding on?Your diet may be the key.Feeling a little bit tired (or more than usual), your diet - specifically refined sugar may be to blame.We consume significantly more refined sugar than our grandparents consumed in their time.The out picturing and evidence of our consumption is evident in the epidemic proportions of childhood and adult obesity and their tag along diseases like diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. Sources of refined sugar include the following:
Bread
Breakfast cereal
Mayonnaise
Peanut butter
Ketchup
Spaghetti sauce
Fruit juices
Varying lines of microwavable foods
Consuming to much refined sugar depresses your immune system.As the body absorbs the sugar, it releases insulin.Growth hormones are not released when there is an insulin spike in the body, which in turn depresses the immune system.Also the more items you eat that are high in sugar, the more fat the body stores.The more fat the body stores, the higher your triglyceride levels.High triglyceride levels have been linked to cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure).
How do we cut back?Try consuming items with unrefined sugar.Try cooking with raw sugar or raw honey (not Splenda - more on that later).Fruits and vegetables have sugar, but these sugars are unrefined and don't cause the insulin spikes that refined foods and foods high in sugar contain. Give it a try for a week or two and feel the increase in your energy and shimmy!!!! Be your best, Jade
